Update to Uniform Policy for 2019-20 School Year

Update to Uniform Policy for 2019-20 School Year
Posted on 08/19/2019

On an annual basis, the St. Theresa's Catholic High School uniform policy is reviewed and information from our school community is used in this review.

We continue to experience challenges in regulation and addressing appropriate wearing of our school kilt. After consultation with our school community, and respecting the history of the school uniform, which dates back to 1997, and specifically the kilt, we weighed all options, including the elimination of the kilt as part of the St. Theresa's Catholic High School uniform.

I am called to respond to the continuing concerns about the kilt, but I am reluctant to eliminate the kilt. Several school boards in Ontario have eliminated the kilt as part of their uniform. There is also a contractual obligation to our uniform supplier, DGN Kilters for the 2019-20 academic year which must be respected.

Therefore, the kilt will be retained as part of the St. Theresa's uniform for the 2019-20 academic year. However, black or navy blue tights must be worn with the kilt commencing Tuesday, September 3, 2019 .

We will review this policy during September and October. A final decision on the retention of the kilt as part of the uniform will be made on Monday, October 28, 2019, respecting the contractual obligation we have with DGN Kilters.

I thank all who have provided input as we move forward, and for your continuing support of St. Theresa's Catholic High School.

Yours in Catholic Education,

Bob Blasko
